Effective August 1, 2020, the City of Edmonton has implemented Bylaw 19408 which makes it mandatory to wear a mask or face covering in all indoor public places and public vehicles.

This applies to all publicly accessible areas of businesses or retail stores. We have been advised that the common areas of apartment buildings are considered to be accessible to the public and therefore will be governed by this Bylaw change.

There are a few exceptions:

  • Children under the age of 2 years old;
  • People with underlying medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from safely wearing a face covering and those who cannot wear or remove one without assistance;
  • People eating or drinking in designated seating areas of public spaces that offer food or beverages;
  • Caregivers or those accompanying someone with a disability;
  • People who need to temporarily remove their face covering to provide or receive a service.
  • People engaged in water activities or physical exercise

For apartments, this means that all tenants, visitors, contractors or delivery personnel MUST wear a mask in all common areas of the building. That includes the hallways, elevators, enclosed parkades and any amenity rooms that are not part of the actual living units. Additionally, social distancing of maintaining a 2 meter separation between people and a maximum of 2 people in the elevator at any time, is also recommended.

In keeping with the COVID 19 restrictions, and in order to maintain the safety of our tenants and staff, our head office will remain closed to the public. However, we are still here to assist everyone but ask that you contact our office by phone or email rather than visiting in person.

MAINTENANCE:

As previously advised, we have suspended all non-essential maintenance repairs that require entry into occupied units. However, we do have some additional information to pass on to you:

  • We ask that you DO NOT flush Kleenex, wipes, paper towels, etc. Only toilet paper is designed to break apart. Everything else is NOT plumbing friendly.
  • If you are uncertain about the severity of your maintenance concern, please contact your site manager directly for clarification.
  • When our maintenance staff are responding to your unit to conduct an essential repair, we would prefer that you NOT be at home. If this is not possible due to self-isolation or any other reason, we require all occupants of the unit to be in a separate and closed room as the repair work is being performed. This is NOT negotiable. 
  • This precaution is being undertaken to protect our tenants and staff. Failure to comply will result in the repair not being conducted.

In order to allow you to make payments in a safe & risk free manner, we are pleased to advise that we are now accepting e-transfers. To make a payment send your e-transfer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

You must ensure that you provide all relevant information to allow us to process your e-transfer including name, unit number, and property address. Once your payment has been received, your bank will email you a confirmation.
IMPORTANT - payments that lack the required info will not be processed.

No action is required of any individuals who are currently enrolled in any pre-authorized payment already established.

Alberta Health Services officials have advised that social distancing is the most effective strategy to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As such, starting Monday, March 23rd, our head office (11604-145 St NW) will be closed to all outside visitors including customer walk-ins until further notice.

However, we are still maintaining a minimum level of staffing that will allow us to continue to carry on our operations and services to our tenants.

TEMPORARY SITE OFFICE CLOSURES

homeEd has been closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and our first priority is the continued safety of our employees and our customers.

Accordingly, and starting Monday, March 23rd, 2020 all of our individual site offices will be closed to visitors including customer walk-ins until further notice. However, our site managers will be working from home so you can still reach them by phone or by email during office hours (8:30 - 4:30 pm) from Monday thru Friday.

You can still make payments via cheque or money order which needs to be placed in a sealed envelope and then dropped in the mailbox of your Site Manager’s Office. The envelope needs to be labeled with your name, unit number and address in order to allow us to allocate your payment correctly. As you know, our site managers are not permitted to take CASH.

We are also working on setting up e-transfer payments for our tenants - we will provide full information once arrangements have been completed by our bank.

Note - there are no changes to the after hour maintenance emergency process at this time. So continue to call us at (780) 474 5706 should you require emergency repairs at 4:30 p.m.
